MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX - Our censured County Chairman will stop at nothing to get reelected, including sending a mailer filled with falsehoods to Montgomery County voters in the party’s name without authorization.

The mailer, hitting voters’ mailboxes today, is another attempt by Chairman Christ to deflect from the fact that he was censured by the local party and is associated with multiple Political Action Committees (PACs) in Montgomery County that were created to deceive Republicans into voting against grassroots Conservatives.

Chairman Christ’s unauthorized and deceptive mailer:

Unauthorized mailer sent by Chairman Bryan Christ with funds that were not approved by the party.

Note the mailer’s return address. The Austin Street address is for the “Republican Clubhouse,” a facility leased by the Montgomery County Republican Club, a Political Action Committee (PAC) founded by Chairman Christ and his wife. Chairman Christ is the treasurer of this PAC. Chairman Christ abruptly closed the longtime Party Headquarters and removed or donated its contents without notifying the party majority. He then began taking donations and held a fundraiser for his Montgomery County Republican Club PAC, claiming his new office space was the Party Headquarters. This location is NOT affiliated with the Montgomery County Republican Party in any way.

Unpacking the Chairman’s Deceptive Mailer

Did the party pay for literature “attacking Republicans” to be placed on mailboxes and lawns?

Chairman Christ’s unauthorized mailer states:

“It’s been reported to our leadership team that literature has been placed on mailboxes and on lawns with the disclaimer that they were paid for by our Party. We want to assure you that we would never produce negative attacks about Republicans and then litter your property with them.”

The literature referred to in Chairman Christ’s mailer is not a “negative attack about Republicans” that was “placed on mailboxes and on lawns.” The voter education push card Chairman Christ is referring to was approved by unanimous vote of the Montgomery County Republican Party at the January 5, 2024, County Executive Committee (CEC) meeting (see January CEC Meeting Minutes) and was included in blockwalking materials distributed by Precinct Chairs in their neighborhoods.

Precinct Chairs followed all legal requirements for distributing these materials, but Chairman Christ is unhappy about the warning given to voters in the push card (shown below) referring to his deceptive Political Action Committees (PACs).

More about Chairman Christ’s involvement with fake Republican groups

Rather than supporting the local and state party, Chairman Christ forms Political Action Committees (PACs) claiming to be the Republican Party to confuse Republicans into voting against local conservative candidates. One of these PACs, the Republican Voters of Texas, was condemned by the party on February 6, 2024, for deceptive electioneering practices.

Chairman Christ’s attacks against his own party and fellow Republicans

Chairman Christ’s unauthorized mailer states:

“We want to assure you that we would never produce negative attacks about Republicans and then litter your property with them.”

In fact, Chairman Christ has done nothing but attack his fellow Republicans since he took office, culminating in a lawsuit filed by Chairman Christ and two of his followers on December 4, 2023, against his conservative political opponent and 17 other grassroots Precinct Chairs in the party he was elected to lead.

When challenged by the defendants’ attorney on the lack of merit in their case, Chairman Christ’s attorneys filed for nonsuit (a procedure in which a plaintiff drops a lawsuit) and the Judge dismissed the case on December 14. The counterclaims filed by the defendants (for frivolous, wrongful suit) in the case are still active.

Chairman Christ waited until the day before the December County Executive Committee (CEC) meeting and Senate District meetings called by State Chairman Matt Rinaldi to prevent certain Precinct Chairs from participating in their Caucus. The suit also was filed close to the Primary Election filing deadline in what many are viewing as an effort to intimidate and silence Chairman Christ’s political opponents.

Other examples:

Did the Montgomery County Republican Party censure Chairman Christ?

Chairman Christ’s unauthorized mailer states:

“Our Party has also not censured our Chairman Bryan Christ, as claimed in Montgomery County Tea Party circulars.

This is false. The Montgomery County Republican Party censured Chairman Christ on December 6, 2022 for:

  • Not fulfilling his statutory duties to report all duly elected Precinct Chairs to the Texas Secretary of State.

  • Failure to recognize Precinct Chairs who were duly appointed by the County Executive Committee (CEC) and report them to the Secretary of the State.

  • Failure to chair the regularly scheduled CEC meetings.

  • Failure to recognize the duly elected officers and Steering Committee elected at the 7/23/2022 CEC meeting.

Resolution to Censure County Chairman Bryan Christ

Chairman Christ also was censured by the Montgomery County Republican Party on April 4, 2023, for liquidating the contents of the local party headquarters without notifying the majority of the County Executive Committee.

Censure for Liquidating Party Headquarters

Chairman Christ also received a Vote of No Confidence from the Montgomery County Republican Party on January 3, 2023, for “causing and creating division, acrimony, and irreparable harm to the Montgomery County Republican Party name by effectively dividing the party into two entities.”

Vote of No Confidence

The Montgomery County Tea Party publishes a popular voter guide that relies on hours of extensive interviews and research to endorse the most conservative candidates. Chairman Christ DOES NOT want Montgomery County voters to use this guide, which includes a note that he was censured by the party. This probably explains much of the motivation behind Chairman Christ’s unauthorized mailer.

Unauthorized, false mailer is one more reason we need new Republican leadership in Montgomery County

Montgomery County Republicans need a strong, conservative County Chair with the leadership experience to bring the party together. Not one who seeks every opportunity to bypass the checks and balances provided by the local party.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Attorney General Ken Paxton and Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi, Conservative Icons Chad Prather and Michael Berry, along with many other Conservative Republicans, have endorsed Gwen Withrow for Montgomery County Chair.
