The task force is part of the Republican Party of Texas’ efforts to end the control of our Texas House by the Democratic minority.

My predecessor in the position of Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman used to partner with Democrats to do reporting called “Purple Politics.” This article is definitely not a report on “purple politics.” It is a report on the big, red dot representing Montgomery County on the map below and the movement to make all of Texas bright red, just like our amazing county.

Chairman Gwen Withrow & Gov. Greg Abbott

Montgomery County GOP Chair, Gwen Withrow, visits with Governor Greg Abbott at the Governor’s Mansion on August 9.

Your State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) met in Austin this past Saturday. It was a very strenuous, packed 24 hours.

Friday night, we toured the Texas Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals.

Saturday morning, we were at the Governor’s Mansion at the request of the Governor to receive an update on his efforts to continue the business of Texas, despite the efforts of House Democrats to stop the vote on redistricting in the Texas House. Governor Abbott made promises to stay the course of forcing the vote requested by our President Donald Trump.

Several House members, including Rep. Mitch Little (HD 65), were also present. These meetings were warm and comfortable. The only person who seemed stressed, in my opinion, was Speaker Dustin Burrows. I repeat that was my impression. We did receive an update from Speaker Burrows and he also promised to continue the fight to demand the Democrats return to the called Special Legislative Session to vote on redistricting.

The SREC then returned to the capitol building and started our special, called meeting to hear the report from the Texas GOP Legislative Review Task Force, which was formed by Chairman Abraham George at the June SREC meeting. The Legislative Review Task Force has been conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the 89th Texas Legislature. County parties have been asked to pause all Rule 44 censure resolutions of their House Representatives until the report is finally approved by the SREC. Upon approval by the SREC, the report will be shared with county parties.

I am including the link here to the SREC special meeting video. The meeting is long, but I think if you want to really understand the grassroots movement to censure House members who violated Republican Party Principles and derailed Texas GOP Legislative Priorities during the 89th Texas Legislature, you should take the time to listen.

Effort was made during the meeting to fully explain the anger and frustration of the grassroots conservative movement to end the control of our Texas House by the Democratic minority. I am attaching a summary of the votes taken for those who cannot listen on their own. As you will see, all votes to include messages to our House members on Republican Priorities in the upcoming final report were carried by the SREC.

This is a fight Republican Grassroots Conservatives have been engaged in with the Texas House for a very long time.  This Friday night, the SREC will vote to approve the final report by a special, called Zoom meeting.
