MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX - Are you passionate about electing principled Conservatives? Do you feel called to advocate for specific policies? Would you like to be a delegate or alternate to the State Convention in May? The initial step in this journey is participating in your Precinct Convention.

Your Precinct Convention will be held on March 5, 2024, at your precinct polling location, beginning at 8:00 PM. All Republicans who voted (or sign an Oath of Affiliation) in the 2024 Primary are eligible to attend.

Find your precinct polling location here.

What is a Precinct Convention?

The Precinct Convention is the first in a series of conventions that define the Republican Party of Texas Party Platform and set the Republican Legislative Priorities for the next Texas Legislative Session.

The Republican Party of Texas Convention Process

What is the purpose of the Precinct Convention?

The purpose of the Precinct Convention is to:

  1. Elect delegates to the Senatorial District Convention which will be held on March 23.

  2. Introduce, consider, and vote on resolutions to be delivered to the Senatorial District Convention for further consideration.

How does the process work?

Precinct Conventions

Precinct Conventions will be held on March 5, 2024, at your precinct polling location, beginning at 8pm. Even if you voted early, you still must go to the voting location for your precinct to attend your Precinct Convention. Each attendee must be a resident of the precinct and have cast a vote in the Republican Primary Election or sign an Oath of Affiliation to the Republican Party in order to qualify to participate in the convention.

After establishing a list of qualified attendees, a permanent chairman and secretary for the Precinct Convention will be elected. Attendees also will nominate and elect delegates to the next level convention, the Senatorial District Convention. Attendees at the Precinct Convention may also introduce resolutions for consideration. After any discussion and perhaps revision, the attendees will vote to determine which resolutions will be forwarded to the Senatorial District Convention.

What's a Resolution and How Do I Submit One?

A resolution is simply a statement of your opinion on an issue that is voted on by an official body, such as those participating in your Precinct Convention. You do not have to submit a resolution at your Precinct Convention, but you most likely will vote on resolutions submitted by others.

Resolutions passed at local Precinct Conventions will move on to your Senatorial District Convention, where they will be voted on by delegates in attendance. The ultimate goal is for the resolution to advance to the State Convention, where delegates vote to add planks to the Party Platform.

If you have an issue that you would like to submit, please follow these guidelines:

  • Resolutions must not conflict with the United States or Texas Constitutions, the 10 Republican Party of Texas Principles, or the Montgomery County Republican Party of Texas Bylaws.

  • It's best to check the Party Platform to see if your issue is already addressed. You don't need to submit a resolution unless you'd like to make an addition or an amendment to the Party Platform.

  • Resolutions shall contain no obscenities, derogatory statements, personal attacks, or threats.

  • Bring three paper copies of your resolution to submit.

Preferred Form of Resolutions

Resolutions usually follow a preferred form made up of “Whereas” clauses and “Resolved” clauses.

“Whereas” clauses are the introductory lines that explain and justify your resolution.

“Resolved” clauses set forth the action you wish to be taken.

Grammar, spelling, concise drafting, and clarity of thought are extremely helpful in the successful consideration and adoption of your resolution.

Sample Resolution

ELECTION INTEGRITY

Whereas the right of American citizens to govern themselves is recognized in the Declaration of Independence; and

Whereas ensuring the integrity of elections is essential to continuing the republican form of government which America and its states now enjoy; and

Whereas, despite efforts to protect the integrity of elections, election fraud still exists and is undermining the foundation of our government; and

Whereas, states have the right and obligation to protect the election process;

Therefore, be it resolved that we urge the Texas Legislature to enact legislation requiring that voters provide valid photo identification in order to cast a ballot in any and all elections conducted in the State of Texas.

Other Sample Resolutions

Visit our Resolution Examples page for resolution ideas from various conservative organizations that you can print and take with you to your Precinct Convention.

Senatorial District Conventions

During the Senatorial District Convention, delegates will consider and vote on resolutions to be forwarded to the State Convention. There also are opportunities during the Senatorial Convention and each subsequent convention for delegates to participate in various committees. In addition, delegates will be nominated and elected to attend the State Convention where they vote on the Republican Party Platform and set the Texas GOP Legislative Priorities for the next legislative session.

It all begins at the local Precinct Convention and that is why every voter should consider participating. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and to carry it through to the state and national level.

Contact your Precinct Chair for more information or email info@mctxgop.org.
