Vote NO on School District Propositions on the November 5th Ballot
October 1, 2024 | Montgomery County, TX
The Montgomery County Republican Party encourages local residents to VOTE NO on all school district propositions on the November 5th ballot.
Three Montgomery County school districts have propositions on the November 5th ballot that will result in permanent tax increases for residents: Magnolia ISD, Montgomery ISD, and Willis ISD.
The Montgomery County Republican Party researched the propositions and presented findings at the October meeting of the party’s County Executive Committee (CEC).
Magnolia ISD & Montgomery ISD
Residents of Magnolia and Montgomery ISDs will see a proposal for a permanent tax rate increase on the ballot. These increases are tied to property values, which is in effect a tax on unrealized income, exactly what the Democrats are proposing at the federal level.
Montgomery County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. Property values are expected to continue to increase, which should more than provide for the needs of these districts without the need for the permanent increase in taxes the schools are requesting.
Willis ISD
Residents of Willis ISD will see three bond proposals on the ballot that each will result in a tax increase. These proposals are for a student activity center, an athletic stadium, and an aquatic center. Willis ISD voters have already voted NO on these propositions twice, including in May of 2024.
If these bonds pass, Willis ISD’s total bond debt will be approximately $1 billion, including principal and interest.
Willis ISD is not doing well academically. These bonds do nothing to address that; therefore, the Montgomery County Republican Party does not endorse these propositions.
Vote All the Way Down the Ballot
This election is not just to determine the President of the United States. While Republicans in the Texas Legislature have been focused on delivering property tax relief to Texans, especially in the difficult Biden-Harris economy, school districts continue to attempt to impose tax increases for local residents. The Montgomery County Republican Party encourages you to vote early, vote Republican all the way down the ballot, and vote NO on all school district ballot propositions.
