Betrayal in the Texas House

First of all, I want to thank the large numbers of patriots who made the trip to Austin this week for the first day of the 89th Texas Legislative Session. Many of you gave of your time and resources to make sure that the Texas House of Representatives were aware of the wishes of the citizens of Texas. The Republicans who voted in November for a Republican to represent them in Austin never dreamed that a minority of Republican Representatives, including Montgomery County’s own Rep. Cecil Bell and Rep. Will Metcalf, would vote to empower Democrats to control the Texas House.

Unfortunately, the ultimate betrayal came when the citizens of Texas were denied access to the gallery after the swearing-in ceremony.  Representatives knew buses full of citizens were going to be at Capitol, but did not think of politely warning the Republican Party that the gallery would be closed. I am actually wondering what other days the citizens will be denied access to the People’s House. Imagine my shock when I found out that my own Representative, Will Metcalf, was the one who issued the memo which denied his constituents access to the gallery. This is absolutely shameful.

I wanted to let my constituents, the Republicans of Montgomery County, know that the County Party is working with the State Party to determine our response to this outrageous behavior. While the timeline will largely be dictated by the State Party, I wanted to let you know that the next meeting of the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) is March 21st and 22nd. It is my personal goal to have a censure resolution prepared and submitted in time to be considered at that meeting.

The Steering Committee of the local County Executive Committee (CEC) met last night and plans were discussed to meet the deadlines necessary. I pledge to keep the Republicans of this county updated and informed of the progress of our local party.

Please also follow the announcements from Abraham George, State Republican Chairman, to keep updated on the Republican Party response to this betrayal by House Representatives. You can subscribe by visiting the texasgop.org home page.
