The Primary Election: Why Is It So Important?

November 19, 2023 | Montgomery County, TX

Why is the March 2024 Primary such an important election? How does it impact you? Your family? Your community and state? Why do you, the voter, need to participate in this election? It is our goal to help you answer these questions and help prepare you to take a more active role in keeping Montgomery County RED.

What is a Primary?

The Primary Election is when each political party selects the candidates who will represent them against the opposition in the November General Election. The question is, who is really electing these candidates?

How does the Primary Election work?

In Texas, we have open primaries. Voters do not “register” as a member of a particular party; however, when you vote in a party’s Primary Election, you must also vote in that party’s runoff election.

Your vote in the November General Election is not bound by your party vote in the March Primary.

Voters are switching Primaries to block Conservatives

The open primary method of electing candidates is less than ideal as it allows unscrupulous voters to “cross-over” and vote in the Republican Primary in an effort to prevent Conservative Republicans from winning the Primary. This is a known strategy of Democrats and RINOs (Republicans in Name Only), and Texas is at the top of their list to flip.

These articles explain how this strategy is being implemented across the country:

Democratic meddling in GOP primaries paid off in a big way on Election Day

The Texas Republican Party Platform addresses this issue in Plank 246:

246. Closed Primary: We support protecting the integrity of the Republican Primary Election by requiring a closed primary system in Texas. While we welcome people to join the Republican Party who support limited government and traditional values, we oppose campaigns to get liberal Democrats to cross over and move the Republican Party to the left in the Primary.

Democrats and RINOs working together in Montgomery County to defeat Conservatives

Unfortunately, there are several “Republican” Political Action Committees (PACs) in Montgomery County that work with Democrats and RINOs to block grassroots Conservative Republican candidates from winning a place on the General Election ballot.

A prime example of this strategy was employed in the recent Woodlands Township elections. Tricia Danto, a proven Democrat supporter, ran as a Republican and was supported by local “Republicans” on their voter guide and at the polls. Danto came very close to unseating the incumbent, Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, who is known as a Conservative Republican by her voting record and her work with and for the residents of The Woodlands. How can Republicans prefer a known supporter of Francis “Beto” O’Rourke over a known Conservative? What is their goal?

These unethical practices make it of vital importance for every Conservative Republican voter to be informed and aware of the credentials and affiliations of every candidate. Remember, actions speak much louder than words.

It is also important to note that the Rules and Bylaws of the Republican Party DO NOT ALLOW THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TO ENDORSE OR SUPPORT ONE REPUBLICAN OVER ANOTHER UNCENSURED REPUBLICAN. There are so-called “Republican Clubs” and PACs that mislead voters by asking, “Do you want a Republican Voter Guide?” This insinuates they are representing the Republican Party when nothing could be further from the truth! So voters BEWARE!

What can you do to help ensure that Conservative Republicans are elected?

Saving our country starts with citizens holding elected officials accountable at the county level. Researching candidates on the March 5 Primary ballot is key to voting for those who represent We the People instead of their own personal interests.

Electing true Conservatives must be the priority

Electing true Conservatives must be the priority for the March 2024 Primary Election. We have seen in the 88th Texas Legislative Session and here in Montgomery County how RINOs and Democrats are working together against Conservatives. We cannot allow it to continue. It starts at home, right here in Montgomery County, with every election, every office, every candidate. It is our duty as voters to root out those candidates who truly do not represent Grassroots Republicans.

In the January issue of the Republican Reporter, we’ll explain how voters can participate as a delegate to the Republican State Convention in San Antonio, May 23-25, 2024. This is where Texas Republicans choose the next session’s Republican Legislative Priorities. It starts with YOU!

Your vote is your voice, let it be heard.

Get Involved!

The Montgomery County Republican Party needs your help as we prepare for the March Primary Election. It takes many volunteers to help with block walking, educating voters in parking lots, and getting out the vote for strong Conservatives. Please take a moment to learn how you can get involved!
