If the senator who represents you is not among these eight, please take a moment to have a serious talk with them. Senators Paul Bettencourt, Donna Campbell, Brandon Creighton, Bob Hall, Lois Kolkhorst, Tan Parker, Charles Perry and Charles Schwertner are the only members who voted in favor of any of the 22 motions to dismiss the impeachment charges against Attorney General Ken Paxton.

As reported by Tom Glass, “The ten Republican Senators who voted against the will of the voters are:  Birdwell, Flores, Hancock, Huffman, Hughes, King, Middleton, Nichols, Sparks, and Springer.

“It will take a positive 21 votes on any one or more of the 20 counts to convict and remove Ken Paxton. Two of the ten Republicans who voted against the voters will have to flip to a ‘no’ on conviction after trial for Paxton to survive.

“The vote on whether the Texas Senate agrees with the Texas Bill of Rights that “all political power is inherent in the people” and the voter-sovereignty doctrine (aka prior-term doctrine) honoring the will of the voters should be respected. The answer is that the majority does not. The Texas Senate has rejected Texas Senate precedent, Texas Supreme Court precedent, the Texas Bill of Rights, and the voters of Texas.”

Resolutions Condemning Paxton Impeachment, Calling for Phelan’s Resignation

On August 14, the Montgomery County Republican Party County Executive Committee (CEC) voted unanimously to pass several resolutions addressing the impeachment of Attorney General Paxton and the failure of House Speaker Dade Phelan in the 88th Texas Legislative Session.

Resolution Condemning Paxton Impeachment

With the passage of the first resolution, the Montgomery County Republican Party CEC joined several other Texas counties in condemning the Texas House vote to impeach Attorney General Paxton. The CEC called the impeachment “politically motivated” and urged the Texas Senate to “immediately dismiss all charges with prejudice regarding the impeachment of AG Ken Paxton and reinstate Ken Paxton to his elected office.”

Tribute Resolution for “Nay” Vote

The CEC also passed a resolution honoring Texas Representatives Steve Toth (HD 15) and Cecil Bell (HD 3) for voting against the impeachment of Attorney General Paxton.

The resolution expressed the Party’s appreciation and gratitude to Representatives Toth and Bell for “their respect to the voters of Montgomery County who have already litigated these allegations through three election cycles and for their respect for due process granted in our Constitution and the protections granted therein.”

Resolutions Calling for Speaker Phelan’s Resignation and Censure by the State Executive Committee

Additional resolutions called for the immediate resignation of Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan and joined in the censure of Speaker Phelan by the Orange County Executive Committee. Orange County is the largest county in Speaker Phelan’s home district.

During the 88th Legislative Session, Speaker Phelan failed in his duty as an elected Republican Representative by allowing many Republican Priority Bills to die in the House. Many of these bills directly impact the safety of Texans, putting citizens in imminent danger.

A censure of Speaker Phelan by the State Executive Committee would allow the Republican Party of Texas to expend resources opposing him in the 2024 Republican Primary Election. True conservative leadership is needed in the Texas House to address the huge issues facing the State of Texas, including border security and election integrity.
