Condemning the Impeachment of AG Ken Paxton and Any Republican Representative Voting for the Action

 

WHEREAS, AG Ken Paxton was duly elected by the voters of Texas in 2022, even though he was under investigation by several parties; and

WHEREAS, AG Ken Paxton has been one of the most effective attorney Generals in recent Texas history as evidenced by his support and defense of the Texas Heartbeat Bill and in his fight to protect Texas’s children by blocking gender modification treatments; and

WHEREAS, AG Ken Paxton has fought to defend and protect Texas from Federal overreach and disregard for the rule of law as evidenced by his many lawsuits against the Biden Administration. According to the Washington Examiner, online article posted on May 19, 2022, “The Lone Star State has sued the Biden administration more than any other Republican-led state, waging 25 lawsuits against the Democrat in his first 15 months in office.

“Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's filing rate is equally as high as his win rate. The federal courts have sided with him in 93% of cases in which there has been movement;” and

WHEREAS, the Texas House Speaker, Dade Phelan, after being called out by the AG for appearing to be drunk at the House Podium, did appear to initiate an unethical and retaliatory move against AG Paxton, by calling for a special committee to call for the impeachment of AG Paxton; and

WHEREAS, The Republican Party of Texas did pass a resolution condemning the actions of the state legislature and posted on the party website on June 20, 2023;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican Party of Texas CONDEMNS the politically motivated impeachment of Attorney General Paxton by the Texas House of Representatives and hereby IMPLORES Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and members of the Texas Senate to uphold Constitutionally guaranteed due process, fairness, precedent, and the rule of law by rendering judgment as a matter of law in the Texas Senate on the grounds that the House of Representatives failed to satisfy due process, to comply with applicable Texas law, and to adhere to precedent; that the articles of impeachment be dismissed with prejudice; and that Ken Paxton be allowed to promptly resume his duties as the duly elected Attorney General.

LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that the Montgomery County Executive Committee joins with the State Republican Party in condemning the Impeachment vote by any and all Republican representatives including Representatives Will Metcalf, HD 16, and Earnest Bailes, HD 18.

LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that AG Ken Paxton has the full support and appreciation of the Montgomery County Executive Committee for his continued support, dedication, and loyalty to Texas, Texas Voters, and Texas Values.

LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that the Montgomery County Executive Committee joins with the state party in calling upon the Texas Senate to immediately dismiss all charges with prejudice regarding the impeachment of AG Ken Paxton and reinstate Ken Paxton to his elected office.

LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution will be sent by the secretary to the following:

  • AG Ken Paxton

  • Matt Rinaldi

  • Rep. Will Metcalf

  • Rep. Earnest Bailes

  • Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick
