I have to start by quoting my opponent: “LET THE VOTERS DECIDE.” The voters spoke and we almost, except for the runoffs, have our slate for the November General Election.
I am deeply grateful for the massive army of dedicated workers who made sure we got through this Primary season. From those serving inside polling places to the tireless campaign volunteers, your countless hours upholding election integrity and serving Republican Primary voters are truly appreciated.
I also extend heartfelt thanks to all the candidates who stepped up to run. I always remind folks that by running, the candidates give you, the voter, a choice. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifices.
It was a very contentious Primary to say the least. Actually, it was downright brutal.
On a personal note, I would like to thank my many supporters who worked very hard to secure my re-election as Republican County Chairman for another two years. I truly enjoy assisting the voters of Montgomery County and ensuring our party is operating smoothly and effectively. I really, really do not like campaign season because of the deceptive campaigns run by many against their fellow Republicans. The mud-slinging, ugly behavior that some exhibited this cycle was disheartening.
As County Chairman, I did not endorse any candidates in county races, as the role demands impartiality in letting voters choose Primary winners.
My campaign was funded entirely by grassroots supporters. I did not have donations from big Political Action Committees (PACs) or gambling interests. It was powered by regular voters through block walking, word-of-mouth, signs, and prayer.
Despite damaging rhetoric and outright falsehoods directed at me, I refused to engage in disinformation or retaliate in kind.
I always thought the campaign slogan, Make lying wrong again, that was used against the party and me, was itself misleading and false. Our party is fully transparent. All of our meetings are open to the public. Our documents, resolutions, and meeting minutes are posted publicly. That slogan was designed to sow suspicion and weaken the Republican Party at a time when our state and nation face serious challenges. We must run factual, respectful, truth-based campaigns.
Those who participated in untruths in this election should recognize the father of all lies is Satan himself. I proudly do not follow his lead.
I particularly dislike the deception of the voters to win an election. Voters deserve to decide who they support based on facts and information, not lies.
As can be seen from the votes in the County Chair race, Montgomery County Republicans differ on the approach they think the party should take to solve the issues facing our county, state, and nation. The voters decide the direction of the party by selecting Precinct Chairs, many of whom represent opposing viewpoints. In my second term, I will again fairly oversee the entire body of Precinct Chairs and manage the party according to the majority votes.
Looking ahead, we appear to have roughly a 66% majority group, which I will call Group 1, and a 44% minority group, which I will call Group 2. I like these generic terms better than the derogatory terms flung back and forth. Unfortunately, there are very few swing voters on the issues the County Executive Committee deliberates.
This cycle, I will be firmer on enforcing the discipline of Precinct Chairs for spreading false, deceptive information and for purposely damaging the party. The body has the ability to discipline Precinct Chairs who participate in this behavior. As I stated earlier, I believe in more information, not less, and I stand firmly on the side of presenting the truth and allowing the voters to pick the best candidates to govern our county, state and nation. Hence, you can anticipate a very active, robust party and lots of important information.
Now that most of our candidates have been nominated, it’s time to press forward. Montgomery County is the largest RED county in Texas, and we must come together as one united front to keep Texas red, expand our national majority, and elect more Republicans at every level - local, state, and federal.
Together, we will take back our country!
God Bless Texas and the USA,
Gwen Withrow, Chairman
Montgomery County Republican Party
