The Republican Party’s role is not simply to educate voters and get them to the polls. It is also to be a voice for Republicans and hold elected officials accountable when they deny the will of the people who elected them and ignore Republican priorities.

The battle to stop Republican House members from colluding with Democrats has been long and hard. I am confident the local and state parties will do everything possible to end the practice of granting power to Democrats to gain their vote for the House Speaker.

Yesterday, the Conroe Courier printed yet another hit piece against the Montgomery County Republican Party. The article is full of falsehoods, omissions of pertinent information, and creative reinterpretations of events. This is not surprising coming from a news outlet owned by the left-leaning Houston Chronicle.

The party is now awaiting the results of the Legislative Session and for direction from the Republican Party of Texas Executive Committee to see if any further escalation of the censures is appropriate. 

The party’s County Executive Committee highlighted several actions as contradictory to Republican Party of Texas principles, including breaking Republican Caucus bylaws and voting with the Democrats to elect Dustin Burrows as Speaker of the House.

The Republicans who voted in November for a Republican to represent them in Austin never dreamed that a minority of Republican Representatives would join with Democrats and vote to empower Democrats to control the Texas House. The State Party and County Party are taking action.
