On Saturday, October 11, the Texas GOP State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) will convene in the Texas Capitol to deliberate on a Republican Party of Texas Rule No. 44 resolution of censure against 10 House Representatives. The rule allows an “opportunity to the Officeholder to appear and be provided time to speak before the SREC.”

The following House Representatives received the notice:

  1. Speaker Dustin Burrows

  2. Rep. Dade Phelan

  3. Rep. Morgan Meyer

  4. Rep. Angie Chen Button

  5. Rep. Angelia Orr

  6. Rep. Cody Harris

  7. Rep. Jared Patterson

  8. Rep. Stan Lambert

  9. Rep. Jeff Leach

  10. Rep. Gary VanDeaver

The resolutions were received from Republican County Executive Committees and will be included in the Resolutions Committee report on October 11 for consideration by the SREC.

Under Republican Party of Texas rules, the SREC can determine what, if any, penalties to impose. Penalties can include withholding party resources, publicly discouraging the officeholder from running, or refusing to allow a censured candidate on the Republican Primary ballot for two years.
