MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX - The Montgomery County Republican Party Steering Committee has been notified that an email was sent to Elected Officials on October 15 from County Chairman Bryan Christ, claiming that the majority of the Montgomery County Republican Party is actually “a group which calls themselves the Freedom Caucus” and “has exhibited a pattern of operating outside the rules…” This is a tactic that Chairman Christ is using to confuse voters and undermine the hard work of the Party Majority.

We ask voters and Elected Officials to read more below about how the Conservative Majority of the Montgomery County Republican Party is being slandered and undermined, and to stand with us in the face of these continued attacks.

Chairman Christ’s Slanderous Email and Attached Image

Freedom Caucus

In recent months, the County Chairman and his followers have gone to great lengths to attack and disparage the Montgomery County Freedom Caucus. The Freedom Caucus is a group of local Precinct Chairs and other patriotic Republicans who share traditional, America-First, Judeo-Christian beliefs and conservative values. This group of Precinct Chairs has not “exhibited a pattern of operating outside the rules,” as Chairman Christ claims. In fact, members of the Freedom Caucus are part of the Party Majority that Chairman Christ constantly tries to undermine because they do not agree with his attempts to circumvent Party Rules and Texas Election Code.

For more information on the Freedom Caucus, please read Why Do Establishment Republicans Object to the Freedom Caucus and Tea Party.

Texas Supreme Court

Chairman Christ also claims that the Party Majority (or Freedom Caucus as he calls the majority) “was recently rebuffed by the Texas Supreme Court in their attempt to validate their antics.” He’s attempting to use a procedural denial to insinuate that the Supreme Court sided with him, all the while knowing that the denial simply indicates that the Supreme Court will not hear the case.

For more information on this false statement, please read Stop the Gaslighting! The Truth About the Texas Supreme Court’s Denial of Rehearing.

The Supreme Court’s denial signals that political party disputes must be handled within the party without intervention from the courts, clearing the way for the Republican Party of Texas to take action.

Removal From the CEC-Owned Bank Account

Chairman Christ also states that he was removed from the party bank account without his consent. The decision to remove Chairman Christ from a bank account owned by the County Executive Committee (CEC) was made by the Party Majority at a properly called August 13, 2022, CEC meeting (see pages 3-4 and 6-7) due to concerns that the Chairman would use funds for purposes other than Party Headquarters rent and Get-Out-the-Vote efforts leading up to the November 2022 election. For more information, please read Access to CEC-Owned Bank Account Statements.

Restore Affordable Water Handout

Chairman Christ’s email includes an attachment of a handout he claims was sent in 2018 by the Montgomery County Republican Party with an endorsement of Vice Chairman Jon Bouché on the back of the handout. In reality, the handout was printed by Restore Affordable Water (RAW) and had nothing to do with the Montgomery County Republican Party.

Chairman Christ Is Undermining Our Get-Out-the-Vote Fundraising Efforts

Chairman Christ then adds “a word of caution” to Elected Officials that they should not support the majority’s November 6 Drive the Vote Golf Tournament, even though all proceeds from the golf tournament will go towards Get-Out-the-Vote efforts for the 2024 Election. Instead, he asks Elected Officials to donate to his minority group of the party.

The Party Is Moving Forward

This is just one more example of Chairman Christ hijacking the Republican Party brand while undermining the voice of the majority members of the CEC. Ask yourself, why would Chairman Christ work against the CEC raising money for the party? Aren’t we all Republicans? It seems he is attempting to funnel resources away from the REAL PARTY in order to handpick his own officers and candidates, i.e., his wife’s clientele, and to fund his own PAC, the Republican Club PAC.

In order to keep Montgomery County RED, the Conservative Majority of the Montgomery County Republican Party will continue to press forward despite baseless claims made by those who want to circumvent Party Rules and Texas Election Code. Here are some of our recent efforts:
