Report From County Chair Gwen Withrow

by Republican County Chair, Gwen Withrow, mctxgop.org

This report was presented at the April meeting of the County Executive Committee (CEC).

In March, I attended the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) meeting in Austin. Dale Inman will be reporting on the changes to the Texas GOP Rules and the updates on the Resolutions Committee items in his SREC report later in this meeting.

The 89th Texas Legislative Session continues to languish on the House side with no priority bills reaching the House floor for a vote. Frustration continues to grow across the State.

Locally, our County Executive Committee (CEC) needs to prepare to submit our list of election workers for the upcoming year. This list needs to be submitted by the end of June to the Commissioners Court.

We are also getting ready for the upcoming cycle which starts with the Senate District (SD) meetings and culminates with the Texas GOP Convention in Houston in June 2026. We will be alerting Texas GOP Chairman Abraham George of the dates for our CEC meetings so that Chairman George will call the meeting to choose our SD temporary chairs. We also need to vote on when we will have our Precinct Conventions.

We will be starting the elections cycle as we prepare for the Primary Elections in March 2026. Each Precinct Chair will need to file to run for their precinct position this fall. We will be sending out filing instructions in September.

It is my hope that the Precinct Chairs move past their differences and work to strengthen the county party. We have much work to do. It is wonderful having President Trump in the White House, but that does not mean we are finished. Our country depends on us to make sure we put leaders in office that will continue the work of restoring our country. I thank the Precinct Chairs for the important work they do for Montgomery County and Texas.
