Wild accusations are being made by supporters of Representatives Will Metcalf and Cecil Bell as a result of the censure resolution that was passed by the Montgomery County GOP on Tuesday evening.

The party is being accused of:

Prohibiting guests from entering the courtroom (FALSE) - The courtroom was filled by Precinct Chairs and guests who arrived early. The meeting was standing-room-only and for safety, additional guests were asked to remain in the overflow area just outside the courtroom doors. The meeting was livestreamed on a monitor in the overflow area and online. As a private organization, we are not required to invite the public to our meetings, but we do so voluntarily because we want transparency and citizen involvement in the local party.

Locking the doors to keep guests out (FALSE) - Doors are locked during important votes ONLY to prevent traffic in and out of the room during vote counting. Guests who were seated in the courtroom were allowed to remain in the room and doors were unlocked immediately after the vote. After repeated disruptions from the overflow area and calls for silence from the County Chair, the doors were asked to be closed (not locked) during important discussions. This is standard procedure at state party meetings as well. The meeting livestream continued in the overflow area and online during all voting and discussion.

Trying to remove our Representatives from the ballot (FALSE) - The county party can't prevent candidates from running in an election, but we have the right to determine who represents the party on the ballot with an "R" beside their name. This is to protect the integrity of the Republican Party and our constituents' votes. Strict rules must be followed and the resolution passed on Tuesday was step one. We will be watching our representatives' actions closely and asking for guidance from the Texas GOP regarding violations and future action.

Montgomery County had the largest net gain of voters in Texas for President Trump in the November Election. Those who are trying to spin this situation are attempting to deceive the voters who expected real change in the Texas House.

Montgomery County GOP officials are upholding our duty to constituents by listening to them and seeking to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. These decisions are not taken lightly, and the party will follow the rules in the process. You can get involved by following the party on our social media accounts or subscribing to our email list to receive action alerts.
