Republican Party of Texas Chairman Releases Statement on Historic Primary Election Results

Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi released the following statement:
“Last night marked a historic shift in Texas politics, as incumbent supporters of Speaker Dade Phelan and his Democrat coalition leadership team suffered unprecedented losses, while the Speaker himself was forced into a runoff. GOP voters sent an unequivocal statement in support of school choice, border security, and a new, Republican-only, governing coalition in the Texas House that does not award powerful committee chairmanships to Democrats.
Last night’s victories would not have happened without great candidates, motivated and informed grassroots activists, and active involvement from President Trump, Governor Abbott, Lt. Governor Patrick, Attorney General Paxton, Agriculture Commissioner Miller, and the Republican State Party. For its part, during the 88th Legislative Session, the Republican Party of Texas invested nearly $200,000 in radio and TV advertising and dispatched 360,000 pieces of mail to educate GOP voters about our legislative priorities and the Paxton impeachment. This voter outreach outside of the traditional campaign season had a notable effect and better equipped primary voters to make informed decisions about who represents them in government.
My term as chair has been focused on the view that the party, working together with our elected officials, should not only win general elections, we should also amplify the voice of the grassroots to define what it means to be a Republican and shape policy that will change people’s lives for the better. We emerged from last night a stronger and more united party because of this approach.
I extend my thanks to Governor Abbott for his leadership, and to all the statewide elected officials who actively participated in making our party one that stands for something meaningful. I congratulate the victorious candidates who made significant sacrifices for the opportunity to serve. Additionally, I express my gratitude to every individual who held signs, knocked on doors and contributed their time and energy to safeguard the future, not just for our children, but for generations to come. Our work is far from over. Indeed, we are just embarking on this journey. May God bless every one of you and this place we are proud to call home—our beloved Texas!”
