Education Committee asking Magnolia ISD to discontinue the United Nations’ International Baccalaureate program
January 23, 2023 | Montgomery County, TX
The mission of the Montgomery County Republican Party (MCRP) Education Committee, in cooperation with the principles set forth in the Texas GOP Party Platform, is to hold our legislators and public education establishments accountable to the platform and American values.
IB program in opposition to Party Platform
One district program in direct conflict with this mission is the United Nations’ International Baccalaureate (IB) program. IB is a non-governmental organization of the United Nations Education Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO). IB promotes internationally minded global citizens and the redistribution of wealth. In August 2022, the IB organization released a Statement in support of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
During the 2022 Texas GOP Convention, many changes were made to the Party Platform, including adding opposition to the IB program curriculum to plank 114.
Magnolia ISD offering IB program
Magnolia ISD is the only Montgomery County school district offering the IB program to students. At present, the MCRP Education Committee is engaged in a letter-writing campaign to inform Republican voters within Magnolia ISD of the district’s use of the IB program. In addition, the committee is asking the Magnolia ISD School Board to discontinue the program.
Addressing local & state-wide educational issues
The MCRP Education Committee is in the process of contacting Senator Brandon Creighton, chair of the Texas Senate Education Committee, with the goal of working together to address educational issues facing Texas and local communities that run counter to conservative American principles and values.
