Bond elections on November 8 ballot to include property tax increase for some residents

 

October 27, 2022 | Montgomery County, TX

Voters in Cleveland, Magnolia, and Splendora Independent School Districts (ISDs) will be voting on school bond propositions that include the language “this is a property tax increase” printed on the ballot. Bond propositions also are included for the City of Houston and several MUD districts. Voters are encouraged to view their personal sample ballot and research these bonds before heading to the polls.

Cleveland ISD Proposition A:

“THE ISSUANCE OF $115,000,000 OF BONDS BY THE CLEVELAND INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR SCHOOL FACILITIES, THE PURCHASE OF NECESSARY SITES FOR SCHOOL FACILITIES, BUSES AND VEHICLES AND THE IMPOSITION OF A TAX SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON THE BONDS. THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE."

Magnolia ISD Proposition A:

"THE ISSUANCE OF $228,000,000 OF BONDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, ACQUISITION, RENOVATION, AND EQUIPMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING A NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, A NEW INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL, A NEW JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, CAPITAL RENOVATIONS TO DISTRICT FACILITIES, NEW CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION FACILITIES FOR EACH HIGH SCHOOL, A NEW ROTC FACILITY, RENOVATIONS TO THE DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL BARN, EQUIPMENT USED FOR SCHOOL SECURITY PURPOSES, AND TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE INTEGRAL TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF DISTRICT FACILITIES, FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE NECESSARY SITES FOR SCHOOL BUILDINGS, AND FOR THE PURCHASE OF NEW SCHOOL BUSES, AND THE LEVYING OF A TAX SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON THE BONDS AND THE COSTS OF ANY CREDIT AGREEMENTS EXECUTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE BONDS. THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE."

Magnolia ISD Proposition B:

"THE ISSUANCE OF $4,000,000 OF BONDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, ACQUISITION, RENOVATION AND EQUIPMENT OF IMPROVEMENTS TO THE BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELDS AT MAGNOLIA HIGH SCHOOL AND MAGNOLIA WEST HIGH SCHOOL, INCLUDING THE INSTALLATION OF ARTIFICIAL TURF, AND THE LEVYING OF A TAX SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON THE BONDS AND THE COSTS OF ANY CREDIT AGREEMENTS EXECUTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE BONDS. THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE."

Splendora ISD Proposition A:

THE ISSUANCE OF $201,000,000 SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, ACQUISITION, REHABILITATION, RENOVATION, EXPANSION, IMPROVEMENT AND EQUIPMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT AND THE PURCHASE OF THE NECESSARY SITES FOR SCHOOL BUILDINGS, AND LEVYING AND IMPOSITION OF TAXES SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON THE BONDS AND THE COSTS OF ANY CREDIT AGREEMENTS. THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE. REQUIRED STATEMENT FOR ALL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND PROPOSITIONS PURSUANT TO SECTION 45.003, TEXAS EDUCATION CODE.

Residents of the City of Houston and several MUD districts also will see propositions that include the “levy of taxes.”

Researching these bonds in advance prevents confusion for voters confronted with signs and handouts at the polls asking for their vote “for” or “against” the bond propositions.

Finally, be aware of political action committees using “Republican” in their name. This does not always mean they are affiliated with the Republican Party. Some of these groups print flyers exclusively during election season to get their issues passed.
