December 9, 2024
From TexasGOP Chairman, Abraham George
Dear Precinct Chairs and County Chairs,
The actions taken by Representative Dustin Burrows and his acolytes during the caucus vote for House Speaker were unequivocally reprehensible. Frivolously walking out of the proceedings to solicit support from Democratic members and cut deals that undermine legislative priorities are intolerable acts of betrayal to Republican voters across Texas.
Republican constituents ardently demand change and accountability in the state legislature. They are tired of weak, dishonest, power-hungry politicians who align with Democrats against the will of the people. Voters delivered a resounding mandate for new leadership that will work on their behalf to deliver impactful conservative legislation benefitting the Lone Star State.
For these reasons, the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) has passed a resolution urging unity among the House GOP Caucus. Considering the actions by Burrows and his liberal allies—including abandoning the vote, offering concessions to Democrats, and working to halt Republican priorities such as school choice, eliminating taxpayer-funded lobbying, and ending the appointment of Democratic committee chairs—we demand that all Republican Caucus members unite behind David Cook in the race for House Speaker. We call on Representative Burrows to cease all campaigning for the Speakership, and we condemn any Republican members who side with Democrats against Representative Cook, the House Republican Caucus nominee.
Furthermore, the RPT makes it clear that any attempts to change the rules to allow a secret vote for House Speaker will be interpreted as alignment with the Democratic Party and deemed worthy of censure.
I am calling on all county and precinct chairs to swiftly adopt this resolution for the sake of both unity and the will of Republican voters across Texas.
Additionally, I urge you to call your elected representative and encourage them to support the Republican caucus nominee, David Cook, and abide by the terms of this resolution.
For Texas and our Union,
Abraham George
Chairman
Republican Party of Texas
TAKE ACTION
The only Texas Rep. for Montgomery County who voted for Burrows is Rep. Will Metcalf. If you're in Rep. Metcalf's district, please call and remind him he was not elected to support Democrats! We need him to come out and publicly support David Cook for Texas House Speaker and vote for him in the House floor vote in January.
