You can use Texas Legislature Online (TLO) to look up current status of a bill or to read the bill text. Check out our how-to article if you’ve never used TLO.

SB 13 by Senator Angela Paxton is a top priority of the Republican Party of Texas that would finally remove sexually explicit, indecent, and profane content from public school libraries across Texas. The Senate passed it. But now, it’s stalled in the Texas House, and time is running out fast.

Let’s be clear: If SB 13 dies, it won’t be legislators who suffer. It’ll be our children, left exposed, unprotected, and betrayed for two more years.

TAKE ACTION NOW – TEXAS KIDS ARE COUNTING ON US

STEP 1: Contact House Calendars Chair Todd Hunter

(512) 463-0672
todd.hunter@house.texas.gov

Tell him: “Please place SB 13 on the calendar without delay. Texas kids can’t wait.”

STEP 2: Call Every Republican Member of the House Calendars Committee

Rep. Stan Gerdes — (512) 463-0682

Rep. Cody Harris — (512) 463-0730

Rep. Jeff Leach — (512) 463-0544

Rep. Janie Lopez — (512) 463-0640

Rep. Carl Tepper — (512) 463-0676

Message for all members: “Please get SB 13 onto the state calendar today. HB 900 is not working as intended and explicit content is still in schools. Texas children can’t wait two more years.”

WHY SB 13 MATTERS

In 2023, Texas passed the READER Act (HB 900)—an important first step that acknowledged the need for content standards in school libraries. Many of us fought hard for it. But two years later, it’s clear: HB 900 is not working as intended. Explicit content is still in Texas public schools!

WHAT SB 13 WILL DO

SB 13 doesn’t replace HB 900—it completes the job:

✅ Clear, enforceable standards for what belongs in school libraries

✅ Transparent oversight with parent-majority library councils

✅ Accountability for districts that ignore concerns

✅ Timely, documented responses to challenges

This is what Texas parents asked for. This is the protection Texas kids deserve.

⚠️ THE CLOCK IS TICKING

We cannot let SB 13 die. Every minute of delay puts children at risk. The House must act now—or be held accountable for inaction.

📞 Make the calls.

📢 Demand action.

Pass SB 13. Protect our kids. Clean up Texas school libraries—before it’s too late.
