Call to Action! Protect Texas Children

Over 100 Texas organizations & leaders have officially called on Rep. Angie Chen Button, Chair of the Texas House Committee on Trade, Workforce, and Economic Development, to schedule a hearing for HB 1549 – The Retail Decency Act.
This bipartisan bill, authored by Rep. Hillary Hickland and co-authored by Representatives Manuel, Ordaz, Leach, and Leo-Wilson, does NOT ban adult products, but it does protect children by ensuring that sexually explicit devices and paraphernalia are not displayed and sold in stores where children are present.
These items are showing up:
On open shelves near kids’ toothbrushes
In Valentine’s displays with candy and stuffed animals
With cartoon-style packaging and flashy slogans
On trucks driving through major cities
Walmart in Houston, Texas
Walmart in Temple, Texas
This kind of exposure isn’t just inappropriate—it’s dangerous. It blurs boundaries, mirrors grooming tactics, and puts children at risk of premature sexualization and exploitation.
We believe parents—not retailers—should decide when and how their children are introduced to sensitive topics.
