Governor Greg Abbott delivered his State of the State address today at 7 pm. He announced seven emergency items for the 88th Texas Legislature.

The Texas Constitution prevents lawmakers from hearing or passing bills until March 10, 60 days into the 140-day legislative session, unless they are declared as emergency items by the governor.

Governor Abbott’s Emergency Items for the 88th Legislature

  1. Cut Property Taxes

  2. End COVID Restrictions Forever

  3. Education Freedom

  4. School Safety

  5. End Revolving Door Bail

  6. Secure the Border

  7. Fight the Fentanyl Crisis

Missing From the Governor’s List

Governor Abbott did not discuss securing Texas elections, the first Republican Party of Texas Legislative Priority, although Harris County’s most recent election debacle has caused many more Texans to lose faith in our election system.

He spoke at length about school choice through state-funded Education Savings Accounts. He also supported parental rights in education and spoke about curriculum in schools, saying:

“If we expect the next generation of Texans to keep Texas the best state in the nation, we must teach them why we are so exceptional. We must educate them what it means to be an American and what it means to be a Texan, so we must bolster civics education in our classrooms and ensure that every child learns the values of freedom, good governance, and patriotism.”

He did not discuss the sexualizing of Texas kids through the teaching, exposure, and discussion of sexual and gender-related matters in the classroom.
