In Montgomery County and all across Texas, parents are discovering library books in their public schools that are completely inappropriate for children. How and when did this happen?

The bigger question is, why are so many informed parents now having difficulty getting these books removed, or at minimum, labeled mature and needing parental consent for the children to check them out?

How many of these types of books are in your school district's library? What is your district's policy that has been created by your school board? Does the policy value the parent's concern and make it easy for the parent to protect their child?

While some children have full access to all sorts of things on their phones, there are still plenty of parents who are proactive in protecting the hearts and minds of their children. We talk about safe spaces. Why is school not a safe place for a child's innocence?

Public schools are tasked with setting rules, guidelines, and criteria for the student body all day, every day. Students are told what the dress code and hair policy are while at school. They are told when they can speak and when they can be excused to use the restroom. Districts choose the curriculum for classes, including for sex education. If vividly described sex scenes are not appropriate material for those, why are they appropriate for the library?

Take Action

You may not have children or grandchildren in your school district, but you are likely concerned about the general welfare of children and our nation’s future leaders. Please consider attending the next school board meeting in your school district and speaking during the public comment time about the importance of protecting children from these books. Visit your school board’s website for times and requirements for speaking.
