Sen. Cruz introduces Constitutional amendment to impose term limits for Congress, energy bills, and calls for Mayorkas impeachment
February 3, 2023 | Washington, D.C.
US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) introduced an amendment to the US Constitution to impose term limits on members of Congress. The amendment would limit US Senators to two six-year terms and members of the US House of Representatives to three two-year terms after the date of its enactment.
Sen. Cruz said:
“Term limits are critical to fixing what’s wrong with Washington, D.C. The Founding Fathers envisioned a government of citizen legislators who would serve for a few years and return home, not a government run by a small group of special interests and lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians who prey upon the brokenness of Washington to govern in a manner that is totally unaccountable to the American people. Terms limits brings about accountability that is long overdue and I urge my colleagues to advance this amendment along to the states so that it may be quickly ratified and become a constitutional amendment."
The amendment was cosponsored by Senators J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Josh Hawley (Mo.), and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.).

Energy bills filed this week
Also this week, Senator Cruz introduced a trifecta of energy-related bills – The Energy Freedom Act, The Federal Permitting Modernization Act (FAST Act) and The 90-day Review Act.
The Energy Freedom Act would accelerate federal permitting for energy projects and pipelines, mandating new onshore and offshore oil and gas lease sales, approving pending liquified natural gas (LNG) export licenses, and generally speeding up solar, wind, and geothermal development.
The Federal Permitting Modernization Act (FAST Act) would require federal agencies to reform and prioritize federal approvals by requiring strict timelines: five days for federal agencies to notify the public of the project by publishing details in the Federal Register; 30 days to publish those environmental documents for review; 60 days for the public to comment on those documents; and a final 30 days to approve or disapprove the project based on that information and feedback.
The 90-day Review Act would substantially shorten the timetable to file a petition for judicial review of a permit, license, or approval of a major infrastructure project, such as a highway or public transit project, from 150 days to 90 days.
“America’s infrastructure should be able to be completed in a timely and predictable manner without excessive government red tape and delays,” said Senator Cruz.
Senator Cruz has choice words for Mayorkas
Senator Cruz joined Charlie Kirk on his Feb. 1 podcast to speak about the border.
“Alejandro Mayorkas, today, is the world's largest human trafficker. His business model is funding the Mexican cartels to the tune of billions of dollars as they bring in fentanyl and opioids that are killing Americans. The house should impeach him and the American people should see and hear the facts of the horrors that are unfolding on our southern border,” he said.
