Take action on House Bill 1686 to protect children

March 31, 2023 | Austin, TX

Now is the time for all good Texas voters to come to the aid of our children. HB 1686, a bill to protect Texas children from the transgender industry, is in danger of stalling in committee.

We just found out that Chair Klick is allowing the public comment portal for this bill to remain open until 5 pm this evening (Fri., March 31).

Click the link under "Take Action" below to make a public comment by 5 pm today - then email the committee members this weekend.

We know this is short notice, but we wanted to reach as many of you as possible. If you see this after 5 pm, please still try to make a comment in case the public comment time is extended.

While Senate bill SB 14, co-authored by Montgomery County Senators Lois Kolkorst and Paul Bettencourt, has passed out of committee, the House bill was heard in the Committee on Public Health on Monday to a great wave of opposition from the transgender community.

This week in Austin saw a drag show in the capitol rotunda, a 'die-in' in the capitol, and an endless line of trans supporters testifying before the committee. Our forces were present and testified, but we were seriously outnumbered.

Can you click the link below to tell the committee members to show the courage we expect from them on this issue? The left is very good at drama, at putting on shows, and at the art of political intimidation. Surely, they do not represent a majority of Texans!

Can we live with ourselves, if we don’t massively stand up and say "no?" Please, take a moment.

Click the link below, fill in your name and other information, and scroll down to Public Health March 27, 2023 - 8:00 AM [E2.036], HB 1686 by Oliverson. Let them know what you think about the mutilation of physically healthy children!

And please, share this alert with everyone you think would take action!

Sample comment sent by a MCRP Legislative Committee member:

"I am writing to urge you and the rest of the House Public Health Committee to report HB 1686 out of committee favorably. Those in opposition to this bill put on a good show and give the impression of having the numbers behind them, but I believe it would be a huge mistake to assume that.

"Our voters are working people, who are often unable to participate in the process in the same way that activists do. But we are watching and we vote.

"As we begin to see the repercussions of this trend of telling children they can change their sex, we will remember who made an effort to stand in the gap. If this bill does not at least get a floor debate and vote, we will have abandoned our responsibilities to all of the children of Texas. Please do not let us down.”
