For as long as anyone can remember, the Montgomery County Republican Party Headquarters has been located at 310 Metcalf Street in downtown Conroe. Dr. Wally Wilkerson, longtime chairman of the party, spent a lifetime within the walls of the Headquarters, collecting mementos of past campaigns and Republican Party history. It was a second home to party members who would congregate to hold meetings and look at years of memories covering the walls.

That all changed on April 2, 2023, when Chairman Bryan Christ abruptly removed the contents of the Headquarters building and shut it down forever.

The County Executive Committee (CEC) did all they could to save the Headquarters, including trying for months to negotiate a new lease. Unfortunately, the lease was in the chairman’s name and the landlord would not discuss new terms with the CEC even though they paid the rent and insurance.

Bryan Christ ran unopposed for the position of chairman in the most recent election, but has refused to respect the majority vote of CEC members, and has refused to chair CEC meetings according to the rules set by the Republican Party of Texas and the bylaws of the county party.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi offered to chair the Oct. 17, 2022, CEC meeting to ensure that it was conducted impartially, but this was refused by Chairman Christ.

The majority of the local Republican Party is committed to bringing the party together for the mission of getting Republican voters registered and to the polls as was acknowledged in the Republican Party of Texas Mediation Summary

The CEC will continue working towards resolution within the party, but one thing is certain – all of the history and memories that were stored in the beloved headquarters building are now gone. The legacy of Dr. Wilkerson has been washed away in a moment by Chairman Christ.
