Faith and Action: It’s How We Roll!
August 20, 2023 | Tyler, TX
Tyler, Texas, August 18, 2023, was the scene of Grassroots America–We the People’s Champions of Freedom Dinner. Conservative Activists from around the state were recognized for their perseverance and dedication to the conservative cause. Executive Director JoAnn Fleming was the host and emcee for this event.
The meeting also featured a panel discussion by U.S. House Freedom Caucus members: Texas U.S. House Representative Chip Roy (TX-21), Freedom Caucus Chair and Pennsylvania U.S. House Representative Scott Perry (PA-10), and Arizona U.S. House Representative Eli Crane (AZ-2).
A Shared Mission
The Grassroots America–We the People PAC is “a non-partisan organization with a constitutional conservative focus.” Their mission is “to advance the Cause of Liberty as rooted in limited government, personal responsibility, good citizenship, defense of traditional family values and the free market system, and a return to the U. S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”
If you think this sounds familiar, it is. The Republican Party of Texas, the Montgomery County Republican Party, the Montgomery County Freedom Caucus, and the Montgomery County Tea Party PAC all share these same goals and beliefs; we are ALL working to return our county, state, and nation to what our Founding Fathers and what God ordained—a safe, free nation where “all men are created equal” and have the opportunity to aspire through hard work, perseverance, and dedication to be whatever they want to be.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The meeting was well attended by a variety of dignitaries including former Director of the Republican Party of Texas, John Beckmeyer; former gubernatorial candidate Don Huffines; U.S. House Representative Nathaniel Moran (TX CD-1); Judge Austin R. Jackson, 114th District Court; and many other local and state leaders and activists all with the same goals: to support and defend the Texas and U.S. Constitutions, the traditional family and family values, and freedom from government tyranny and overreach.
Montgomery County Attendees
The Montgomery County Freedom Caucus and Montgomery County Republican Party were well represented at the event with the largest group in attendance. Sixteen people made the trip to Tyler, with Freedom Caucus members sponsoring two VIP tables. Grassroots America–We the People expressed their gratitude for this outpouring of support by Montgomery County patriots.
Montgomery County attendees included Freedom Caucus President Wendy Yockey, Tim Yockey, Freedom Caucus Vice President (Precinct 97 Chair) Kim Weber, Precinct 90 Chair Brigetta Millen, Precinct 102 Chair DJ Fike, State Republican Executive Committeewoman and Republican Party of Texas Officials Committee member Gwen Withrow (Precinct 72 Chair), Bob Withrow, State Republican Executive Committeeman Dale Inman (Precinct 27 Chair), Kelley Inman, Montgomery County Republican Party Vice Chairman Jon Bouché, Montgomery County Republican Party Secretary Jennifer Eckhart, as well as Montgomery County activists Bob Bagley, Phil and Nina Cady, Paige Tooker, and U.S. House District 2 candidate Jameson Ellis.
Champions of Freedom Awards
Grassroots America–We the People Executive Director, JoAnn Fleming, presented 12 awards recognizing dedicated conservative activists working across the state of Texas to promote and secure the rights, freedoms, and traditional Judeo-Christian values that made our state and country an example to the world of what it means to be a free Christian nation. Each of the recipients described the reason for their service and activism as a calling by God, and attributed their motivation to their concern for their children and grandchildren. That is something most all of us can agree with.
Fleming and other speakers emphasized that nothing we do can be accomplished without guidance from our God. That without Him our efforts will not produce the fruit He intended. The prevailing thought throughout the evening was that “all things are possible for those who trust in the Lord.” Guests were challenged to remember that we can win this battle for our children and our nation through our actions when based in prayer and trust in God.
A Call to Action
The panelists brought home this point by asking, “what good are words without action?” They emphasized that for too long (decades) Republicans have talked about what needs to be done; however, traditionally, no action is ever taken to make changes. The U.S. Freedom Caucus pledged to not only talk about issues, such as the border, human trafficking, inflation, and America’s loss of respect and authority in the world, but to actually put those words to action. Time will tell, but they need our support and our voices behind them. It is not something they can do alone. It will take a nation of people to make it happen. This is a call to action for all Texans and American citizens to get involved and act.
