An update from the Montgomery County Republican Party (MCRP) Education Committee
More than 50 obscene books recently were removed from Conroe ISD libraries, including the extremely graphic Tricks, by Ellen Hopkins and Damsel, by Elana Arnold (warning - explicit content). Keep voicing your opinion on obscene books in our local schools - your voice is making a difference!
While this is certainly a victory, many more obscene and explicit books remain in our Montgomery County schools, including The Bluest Eye, Ramona Blue, and Sold (warning - explicit content).
Conroe ISD Continues to Make Excuses
Conroe Independent School District (CISD) incumbent board members continue to stall and make excuses as to why they cannot remove pornographic books from our school libraries and classrooms.
At the March 21 Conroe ISD Board of Trustees meeting, we had several people testify by reading directly from pornographic books found in CISD schools. The number of people testifying for the removal of pornographic books outnumbered those testifying to keep the books in our schools by approximately three to one. We need to continue this momentum so school board members will understand our community values don't include pornographic books!
Several of the incumbent board members brought up “community standards” as being a gauge for decisions they make. Two members of our group responded during testimony that CISD has three new board members who were voted in by the community, showing the true community standards. The voting public has demonstrated that they want the explicit books removed by speaking at the ballot box.

TAKE ACTION
Volunteer with the Education Committee
The Education Committee needs your help to get pornographic books out of our local schools! They currently are circulating a petition protesting the pornographic books in CISD. The goal is to secure 2,500 signatures.
The Education Committee also is working with other concerned citizens in the community on an email and phone campaign to send or call the CISD School Board, Superintendent Null, and others to put pressure on them to remove the pornographic books.
