You can use Texas Legislature Online (TLO) to look up current status of any of these bills or to read the bill text. Check out our how-to article if you’ve never used TLO.
Protecting Children Is a Top Priority!
You have spoken out in huge numbers to fight for Texas children!
Thousands of emails and calls have gone into the Capitol! Thank you!
Never forget – your voice really MATTERS in this fight against evil.
Major Victory in Sight!
Thanks to your relentless calls and emails, SB 412 by Senator Mayes Middleton passed the TX Senate in March, and its companion, HB 267 by Rep. Jared Patterson, is scheduled for a House floor vote on Monday, April 28th. Please pray for the passage of this bill!
These crucial bills repeal legal justifications (loopholes) in the Texas Penal Code for providing a child pornography, having children perform sexually for adults, and possessing child pornography.
If all goes as planned, they’ll land on Gov. Abbott’s desk as early as next week! This will mark the first major win for our Stop Sexualizing Texas Kids priority this session.
We know (and so does the Lord) that your active efforts will make a victory possible. Thank you!
Quick Action Needed
For too long, public libraries have provided sexually explicit materials to minors. Senate Bill 2101 by Sen. Bryan Hughes is a critical step to stop this by requiring public libraries to move explicit content from children’s sections to adult sections. Non-compliant libraries will face a $10,000 penalty per violation. This is about protecting kids – not banning books.
Email and call the Senate Committee on State Affairs to voice your support for Senate Bill 2101, which is schedule for a hearing Monday 4/28:
Example message: “I strongly support SB 2101. Our public libraries should be safe environments for children (including teens) – free from sexually explicit material. This bill provides clear standards and accountability, ensuring taxpayer dollars aren’t funding inappropriate content for minor children. Please vote SB 2101 out of committee quickly to help make Texas libraries family friendly. There is NEVER, EVER a righteous reason to expose a child to porn!”
Use THIS LINK to send your unique message to the Senate State Affairs Committee in support of Senate Bill 2101. Be sure to include in your email that you are contacting the senators in their role as committee members; thus, their actions impact all Texans – not just those who live in their districts!
Once your email is sent, a list of phone numbers will pop up. Please take a few minutes to call the committee members. Ringing phones get their attention – so keep them busy! If the staffers complain, don’t feel guilty! You have every right to tell elected officials what you do and do not support. It’s a Founding Principle called “Consent of the Governed.”
Thank you for raising your voice in defense of children.
In liberty and God’s grace,
Christin Bentley
