Bills to Watch: HB 1102

March 2, 2023 | Austin, TX

While Texas citizens wonder how we came to a place where biological males are allowed to compete in girls and women’s sports, some Texas Legislators are showing us how it’s done.

One bill to keep an eye on is House Bill 1102, sponsored by Representative Jon Rosenthal, a Houston Democrat, that would legalize the practice of changing the name and sex on birth certificates for persons transitioning.

As Rosenthal stated, his bill would allow “anyone who wishes to make a change to their vital documents to do so, without unnecessary government oversight.” The bill, however, does not apply to minors without approval of their parent and doctor.

Rosenthal contends, “It is my belief that members of the LGBTQ+ community do not pose a threat to school sports by being who they are.”

How many of you have daughters involved in sports? Do you agree with Representative Rosenthal?
