The Republican Party of Texas held a press conference the day after the proposed ban of Democrat committee chairs failed in the debate of House Rules.

“State House members in Texas just rolled over and played dead,” said Republican Party of Texas Legislative Priorities Chair, Jill Glover. “Instead of punishing members who broke quorum last session, the Texas House has chosen to reward them with powerful committees.”

Representative Nate Schatzline spoke about the importance of listening to grassroots Republicans.

Representative Richard Hays spoke from a parliamentary standpoint about why the rule change failed and strategies for working together to pass important legislation during the rest of the session.

Representative Brian Harrison thanked the grassroots for supporting their representatives and questioned the decision to give power to Democrats who haven’t earned it from the voters. He stressed the importance of moving forward.

Representative Bryan Slaton said that making sure the majority party is in leadership is a “no-fly zone” in the Texas Capitol and called out Republican elected officials for treating Republican voters with disrespect. He encouraged voters to stay in the fight.

Representative Tony Tinderholt said that although one of the eight Republican Party of Texas priorities failed yesterday, there is no reason the remaining seven priorities need to fail.

Glover closed by reminding Representatives and Senators that the grassroots block walk, phone bank, and get out the vote. She asked legislators to hear their voices and committed to working on the remaining Legislative Priorities throughout the session.
