Why is it important to ban Democrats from chairing legislative committees?
December 12, 2022 | Austin, TX
Legislative committee chairs have the power to unilaterally kill legislation. Democrat chairs have a track record of doing so, even when the legislation supports the priorities of the Republican Party that otherwise controls the legislature.
Additionally, the power that accompanies committee chair positions attracts lobbyist money used to defeat Republican challengers during election seasons.
While Republican voters overwhelmingly support banning Democrat committee chairs, only five lawmakers supported the ban in the last session. We are making progress, but have a long way to go. At the most recent accounting, 17 lawmakers had agreed to support the wishes of their voters.
If your state representative is not on this list, please call and insist that they follow the wishes of their voters:

Rep. Matt Shaheen
Rep. Briscoe Cain
Rep. Valoree Swanson

Rep. Gary Gates
Rep.-Elect Ellen Troxclair
Rep.-Elect Carrie Isaac
Rep.-Elect Nate Schatzline
Rep.-Elect Terri Leo-Wilson
Rep.-Elect Mark Dorazio
Rep.-Elect Ben Bumgarner
Rep.-Elect Caroline Harris
Rep.-Elect Richard Hayes

Ban Democrat Chairs is a top legislative priority. Last session, three GOP priority bills died in committees chaired by Democrats.
Business & Industry Committee Chair, Democrat Rep. Chris Turner, killed a religious freedom bill, HB 1569.
Public Education Committee Chair, Democrat Rep. Harold Dutton, killed a School Choice bill, HB 4537.
Criminal Jurisprudence Committee Chair, Democrat Rep. Nicole Collier, killed the strongest bill to protect our historic monuments, HB 446, which would have increased criminal penalties for damaging or destroying monuments.
Here’s what we need you to do:
Step 1) Call your State Representative; a phone call is more effective than an email. If you don't know who your Representative is or their phone number, click here.
Step 2) Urge them to release a public statement (tweet, facebook post, mass email, or press release) supporting House Rules that ban Committee Chairs of the minority party. If they have already made a public statement banning Democrat Committee Chairs, thank them.
Chairing a committee allows a Democrat to single-handedly block legislation from passing and provides them the power to push their far-left radical agenda. We can’t let that happen—contact your legislators today!
