Call to Action! SB 250, relating to medical gender transitioning of children

March 14, 2023 | Austin, TX

At 9:30 am on Thurs., March 16, the Senate State Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Senator Bob Hall’s SB 250 regarding the provision of professional liability for gender reassignment medical procedures for certain children.

The bill would amend the Insurance Code stating that professional liability insurance policies issued to a physician or healthcare provider MAY NOT include coverage for damages assessed against the physician or healthcare provider who provides to a child gender transitioning or gender reassignment procedures or treatment.

This is in conjunction with various other bills moving through the Texas Legislature that seek to prohibit medical treatment of children that would sterilize or otherwise remove healthy or non-diseased body parts.

The Texas Medical Board or other regulatory agency with jurisdiction can revoke the license of providers who violate this section.
